Simple Bicycle Maintenance Tips
Keep your Bike on the Road
When spring rolls around, we take off our bulky winter clothes and discover the rolls of flab around the middle. Many people drag out the 10-speed and try to pedal away the pounds.
Before you ride off into the sunset, however, it’s a good idea to do a few simple things to make sure the bicycle will make it under such a heavy load. Remember TLC? Sure, that stands for “tender loving care.” But, in the bike game, it stands for tightening, lubrication and cleaning.
Tighten everything on the bike, paying particular attention to the seat and handlebars. Adjust the brakes and the gears and be sure they work properly.
Lubricate all the moving parts, including the chain.
Now clean everything on the bike to be sure your hands and feet won’t slip, and so the bike will look its best.
Check the tire pressure and have all the needed lights and reflectors if you’ll be riding after dark.
Just doing that will burn off a few calories.
